quick ink sketch

just screwing around:

Pinups and dragons

Just playing with a sphere.  Zbrush crashed when I was trying to export the movie :( so I guess the image will have to do.  Its very rough, but I think I'm going to do a pin up inspired piece.

I also think I'm FINALLY getting somewhere with that dragon De Spain piece.  (Mind you he drew the head, I'm trying to get a body going that doesn't clash with how he drew it)

busy busy busy

I've been busy lately, and rather uninspired.  I will hopefully have a new piece up here in next day or two, stay tuned.  for now I can post the images I put on my cghub, which is just a little more polished showing of my WORK IN PROGRESS.

Teaching:

In other news I'll be hopefully teaching 3 classes this winter, one of them on Digital sculpting using sculptris.

I posted a little ways a back, about it winning best new program by 3D World Magazine.  Its basically free zbrush, but with the mush dynamically subdividing as you go. Its free and my school loves that.  I'll also be returning for another game theory class, and one on intro to digital media, for the younger ones (something to get there feet wet.

If all goes well I should be in a pretty good spot for the winter :)

Speed sculpt now with video

So many asked me recently how I do my skin texture, well I decided to record a quick sketch (nothing fancy) and in it I do some skin techniques.  I only use the clay buildup brush, the move tool, and the DS standard tool.  Well at least for now.  There still needs to have some inflating here and there, plus ears and such, but the face is something that's enough for demonstration purposes.

small update

quick update:

This time I decided to push the falic nature of his head (a trick I like to employ, immediately gives the creature a foreboding sense) I also gave some weight to the back of the skull.

I also adjusted the skin's bumps, and played with the clay modifier in regards to the armor.

My thinking though is that I'm going to lose the upper tentacle things from his head

Adjust the alien

I decided to pull out one of the beta models and try to improve it.  I first added asymmetry and adjusted skin detail using the same technique as my demon dude before.  And YES I will have a tutorial up soon, stop asking :P

Then I decided to work with tendrils and off shoots.  I reworked the silhouette and I gotta say I like it :)

still playing, then of course I need to take it into maya.

Birthday shenanigans

Hello everyone, sorry I've been somewhat quiet lately, I do apologize...

Okay no I don't haha, for you see on the 14th was my birthday, my 22nd to be exact, and boy do I feel old...

Now being in New York at the time this weekend could mean only one thing:

Thats right!  New York Comic Con, and boy was it hectic.  I'll be posting pictures soon, I didn't take too many, but those I did I think were funny:P

I went on thursday and friday under the guise of professional, and proceeded to grab as much free crap as I could lay my grubby hands on.

I must be honest, however, I'm no comic geek.  I've never been into comics, in fact I only get a chance to flip through a graphic novel once in a blue moon.  But I find it so odd to look upon the comic world.  And see how the other subcultures (toys, gaming, anime) all view the printed material present.

So as for the sculpting I've been relaxing but I did adjust some things:

and here I think I've figured out where I want this body to go for the dragon:

Other than that I've been going over what I want my 22nd year to consist of.  I've not been published 4 times, and have had some work under my belt.

I'm hoping to continue to adjust my portfolio and get more work.  And maybe find time to just enjoy more things.  who knows.  well thats all for now,  till next time :)

getting back into the flow, Dragon's body

adding a body to Nick De Spain's concept.  Its beginning to look like two different models that share the same space haha.  I'm going to have to work on that.  But I feel refreshed and am trying out a new modeling technique.

No hind legs yet still figuring them out.

Dragon head from a sphere: roughing in

Originally planned on doing this earlier buy my first attempt failed when I did a demo for someone, and my file got corrupted :(

This is the second time around, about an hour in this, trying to figure out forms.

The original concept is by artist Nicolas De Spain, he graciously allowed me to use this concept for a sketch.
the original can be found here:
